How to Submit Your Photos to Us:

So you have decided you want to have your photos restored or enhanced by the Photo Dr .

The first step is to contact us to get a quote. In the pricing section of this site we have stated general guidelines to help you determine approximately how much different kinds of work will cost. If you need an exact quote we really need to see the photo to determine how much time is needed to complete the job. If you have access to a scanner, you can do a low resolution scan (about 100 dpi, see scanning tips for details) and email us the file.

If you have no scanner and no access to one, just mail us (see mailing instructions) the photo. You will not be charged unless you decide to go ahead with the job, and the original will be returned to you unaltered whether you purchase services from us or not.

For Digital photos, simply E-mail the files to us by attachment, or copy them to a CD and mail them.

Scanning Tips:

If you own your own scanner and know how to use it, please follow these instructions:

  • For a low resolution scan (to get a quote from us) use a 100 dpi setting.
  • For a height resolution scan (to have the work done) use 300 dpi if you do not need the photo enlarged. Use 600 dpi or more if you wish the photo to be printed larger than the original.
  • Set the scanner to color (RGB) mode, even if the original is not a color photo.
  • Turn off or disable any sharpening (USM) feature of the scanner software.
  • It is best to save the file as a TIFF file. If you need to save it as a JPEG to reduce file size, then be sure and use the highest quality setting.
  • E-mail your files to us here:

If you do not own a scanner, you can have your photo scanned at your local print store or at a big office supply store with a full service business center.

Shipping and Packing Instructions:

To ensure that your photos arrive safely we recommend packing them with care. If you have only a few photos, you can pack them between two pieces of cardboard that are held together with elastic bands. Place the cardboard in a suitably sized shipping envelope and be sure and write “DO NOT BEND ” in large letters on the outside of the envelope. For very large photo collections, a box is more suitable. Make sure and pack the photos inside so they do not rub against each other during shipping. It is best to pack them in stacks with cardboard cutouts on both ends of each stack. This sandwich can be held together with elastic bands. Arrange the stacks in the box so the do not bump around. You can add packing material if needed to fill empty spaces.
